Short Introduction

Nd: YAG laser penetrates from the epidermis into the dermis where the pigment resides. Because the laser emits pulses in nanoseconds with super high peak energy, the pigment particles swell and fracture rapidly, breaking into tiny fragments that can be eliminated through the body’s metabolic system.

Working Theory

nd yag laser z

The therapy targets pigmentation in both epidermis and dermis with the Nd: YAG laser. When the laser penetrates the skin, its ultra-short nanosecond pulses deliver extremely high energy to the pigment mass, causing the pigment particles to expand and break into small pieces. The metabolic system then gradually eliminates these pigment fragments from the body.

In carbon peeling treatment, the 1064nm wavelength laser interacts directly with carbon cream applied to the skin. The laser breaks up the toner, allowing it to absorb pore oil and dirt. At the same time, the laser stimulates the dermis to produce a significant amount of collagen, thereby enhancing pore tightening and whitening effects.

Treatment

nd yag laser

During Nd:YAG laser treatment, high-energy nanosecond pulses selectively target pigment particles or tattoo ink. The pigment rapidly absorbs the energy, expands, and fractures into micro-particles, which are gradually cleared through the body’s metabolic and lymphatic systems, enabling precise and controlled pigment removal.

During treatment, superficial pigments may partially vaporize, while deeper pigment clusters are mainly disrupted by a photoacoustic effect. Temporary reactions such as mild redness, swelling, or pinpoint bleeding may occur and are considered normal. These effects usually resolve naturally within approximately 20–60 days.

For brown or red pigments, a 532 nm wavelength with lower energy density and smaller spot size is recommended to minimize thermal impact. Deeper dermal pigmentation or tattoo ink responds better to the 1064 nm wavelength for stronger penetration. Multiple sessions are often required at 6–8 week intervals, supported by proper sun protection and basic post-treatment care.

After Nd:YAG laser treatment, proper aftercare is essential to support skin recovery and maintain stable treatment results. Mild redness, swelling, or a warm sensation may appear in the treated area and typically subside naturally within a short period.

Patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure during the recovery phase. Physical sunscreen products with high SPF should be applied when going outdoors to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. The treated area should be kept clean and dry, and excessive rubbing or exfoliation should be avoided until the skin fully recovers.

For the first 7 to 14 days after treatment, it is recommended to avoid hot environments such as saunas, steam rooms, or hot baths, as excessive heat may interfere with skin healing. Gentle calming or repairing skincare products may be used to support epidermal regeneration. If crusting or micro-scabbing occurs, it should be allowed to shed naturally without manual removal to prevent scarring or pigment recurrence.
